Island – Jedna od najlijepših zemalja svijeta

Nedavno sam bio na Islandu. Da vam kažem, taj otok je nešto nevjerojatno. Glečeri, vodopadi, kanjoni, vulkani, o tome ću vam sada pričati.

Þingvellir [čit. Thingvelir], što znači Saborsko Polje, koji izgleda više kao kanjon nego polje, je bilo mjesto gdje se jedna od najstarijih demokratskih skupština sastavljala i odlučivala, između ostalog, o sudbini kriminalaca. U drevnom Islandu, najgora kazna za neki kriminal je bila izbacivanje s Islanda na 3 godine, čak i veća nego smrt vješanjem. Þingvellir je nastao zbog tektonskih pomaka i hodajući u tom kanjonu, zapravo hodaš između Euroazijske ploče i Sjevernoameričke ploče.

Geysir, geotermalna dolina, po kojem je fenomen izbacivanja kipuće vode i nazvan, je jedna od najpoznatijih lokacija na Islandu. Iako je pravi gejzir Geysir “ugašen” od 1916., glavna atrakcija je postao Strokkur, koji svakih desetak minuta izbaci vodu maksimalno 30 metara u zrak.  Kliknite ovdje da vidite erupciju Strokkur-a.

Gullfoss je najposjećeniji vodopad na Islandu. To su zapravo dva vodopada, jedan od 11 metara i jedan 0d 21 metar i nalaze se na rijeci Hvítá. Zbog velike količine vode koja teče niz vodopad, mnogo ideja za iskorištavanje vodopada kao izvora energije su isplutale na površinu, ali zasad nijedna nije ostvarena.

Sa svojih 20.000 stanovnika, Akureyri je drugi najveći grad na Islandu i čini kulturno središte sjevernog Islanda. Nalazi se na samom dnu fjorda Eyjafjörður [čit. Ejafjordur]. Sa brda na kojem se nalazi crkva se može baciti pogled na velik dio grada. Uz crkvu, postoji i botanički vrt, kao i muzej umjetnosti.

Vulkan Hverfell [čit. Verfel], sa promjerom od 1000 metara, jedan je od najvećih eksplozivnih kratera na Zemlji, star je oko 2900 godina.

Tupik (Fratercula arctica) je APSOLUTNO najslađa ptica (Pogledajte!). Po danu su na moru i hvataju ribe, a po noći se vraćaju i hrane svog partnera i ptiće. Toliko su maleni da stanu u šaku.

Seljavallalaug je najljepši bazen na svijetu. Izgrađen 1923., to je jedan od najstarijih bazena na Islandu. Sva voda dolazi od okolnih toplih izvora u planinama, ali ne dovodi se pumpama, već se vruća voda slijeva niz obronke.

Harpa, koncertna dvorana Islanda, nije samo simbol Islanda zbog predivne arhitekture, nego zbog problema unatoč kojem je ona ipak izgrađena: gospodarske krize. Naime, par mjeseci nakon početka radova, gospodarska kriza je zavladala i raspravljalo se o tome hoće li radovi nastaviti. Na sreću, radovi nisu bili obustavljeni i danas Harpa ponosno stoji kao simbol snage u vrijeme krize!
