„Crna paleta. Još crniji život.“

 

Josip Račić, rodom iz Horvata pokraj Zagreba, hrvatski je slikar poznat po svojim tamno toniranim djelima i teškom, neimaštinom ispunjenom životu. Svoju umjetničku karijeru izgradio je na temeljima podizanim sa velikom mukom i patnjom. Još je od malih nogu pokazivao izniman interes i talent na području likovne umjetnosti, no njegov mu otac školovanje u tom smjeru nije mogao priuštiti. Račić se morao zadovoljiti s litografskim zanatom.

Kasnije, kao devetnaestogodišnjak, seli u Beč gdje upisuje Akademiju. Neki od njegovih najpoznatijih radova zapravo su nastali za vrijeme školskih praznika (Majka i dijete, Djevojka pred ogledalom, Portret gospođe u crnom i Autoportret). Ti radovi u ono su se vrijeme smatrali kao „radovi nadarenog studenta“, ali danas te slike predstavljaju jedne od najdragocjenijih primjeraka koje čuva Moderna galerija u Zagrebu.

Zar jednostavno nije čudesno, ali isto tako i tužno, što ravnodušnost prema rastućem talentu toliko sputava umjetnika, da se njegovi radovi slave nakon njegove smrti, a on nikada ne dočeka vidjeti koliko je uistinu umjetnički vrijedio?

Račić se danas smatra začetnikom hrvatske moderne, dijelom zbog toga što dok su njegovi kolege slikali uljem u veselim bojama, Josip je crnim ugljenom slikao pejzaže, no također je u te pejzaže utkao svu crninu koju je njegov život od samih početaka u sebi nosio.

„…crnina ugljena upravo idealno sredstvo, kojim može izraziti svu crninu svoje duše malog litografskog naučnika, koji je išao iz blata svog sela u crninu tiskare.“ – zabilježio Matko Pejić u svojoj knjizi o ovom umjetniku.

Njegova ga je duša žedna za umjetnošću odvela u Pariz, najveću slikarsku metropolu u Europi početkom XX. stoljeća. Tamo mu je bilo ponuđeno besplatno školovanje, ali Račić to nije prihvatio. Umire u svom stanu u Parizu. Postoje različita mišljenja o tome je li njegova smrt bila nesretan slučaj ili ne, najvjerojatnije se je sam ustrijelio.

Račić, dvadesetrogodišnjak koji je sanjao o Parizu kao pozlaćenim vratima u svijet blagostanja, živio je životom čovjeka koji je jedva spajao kraj s krajem. Jedino što mu je moglo dati bilo kakvu utjehu bile su umjetnost i slikanje.

Zbog ovakvih ljudi koji svojim životom daju primjer da čak i u teškim uvjetima, bez da su im ispunjene osnovne životne potrebe, MOGU i JESU slijedili svoje snove, makar oni trajali prekratko.

Zbog toga se mi danas, sa našim životom koji je sve samo ne težak u smislu hoćemo li sutra imati kruha ili ne, hoće li naša djeca gladna leći u krevet ili ne, slobodno možemo zapitati zbog čega NE slijedimo SVOJE snove i zbog čega ih još nismo OSTVARILI?
